Trends in the healthcare sector

As you probably know, and probably you already heard several times, the digital transformation of the healthcare sector is here. That means that several technologies have finally taken the lead to a new kind of health services, more accurate, personalized, portable, and private.

As for many other things in our lives, we don’t have the time to take care of our health the way we used to, we want everything to happen when, where and how we need, according to our live routines.

That is the reason why these 3 issues are trend in the healthcare sector, and the companies which turn those into reality are becoming more and more important in the last months

1. Healthcare #OnDemand

According to DMN3, three years ago consumers already were going online to obtain medical information for: 47% to research doctors, 38% to research hospital and medical facilities and 77% to book medical appointments [1]. So, it was just a matter of time that patients and doctors started having the appointments directly through their phones. The pandemic has helped a lot to change the mindset of the sceptical ones, introducing this new possibility so smoothly in our lives that we have not even realized how it started, but now even our grandfathers are doing it.

#Telemedicine companies have experimented huge growths, receiving investment, new users and downloads and tones of publicity during the pandemic, some examples of European apps are KRY, Babylon, Min Doktor, Push Doctor, Qare, Doktor.se or VideoDoc

2. #Wearable medical devices

Companies collecting our health data from smart watches are not surprising any more, by 2022, Wear OS and Android are expected to be installed in 37 million smartwatches worldwide, while another 34.5 million smartwatches are expected to run Apple's watchOS [2]. But what companies are implementing now, are specific wearable devices for controlling determine diseases or preventing them. A recent example of company doing this kind of devices in Spain is Idoven, which delivers a wearable vest to perform a remote professional cardiology study

3. AI, big data and predictive healthcare

AI and big data are very relevant technologies in several aspects of healthcare activities such as patient’s management and prioritization, patient diagnosis, treatment design, treatment implementation, and patient’s response interpretation. Besides, predictions of the evolution of patients done using those are more accurate and reliable.

Big data helps specially in lowering the rates of errors, estimating future admission rates and prioritizing patients based only in statistics and past patient and data behaviours.

AI have the biggest impact in areas such as precision medicine, medical imaging, drug discovery, personalized therapies and treatments, and genomics

AI, big data and the mix of the two of them allows companies to develop predictive healthcare techniques adapted to each patient decreasing the probabilities of suffering illness and improving the quality of life of citizens.
